Catalytic Converters are fairly easily stolen. Particularly from SUVs as a result of the high clearance underneath them.

The reason why someone would want to steal one is that some people are in the business of recycling them. They will buy them to extract the containing precious metals and deal with the waste resulting from the process.

A used one won't fetch much,(around $10-$30 depending) but if you put out a craigslist ad for them, you're sure to get plenty of bites. Recycling these can be profitable if you care to bother.
